Joyously unconventional Eastern European Jewish music ends our Susquehanna Folk Festival in grand style! The Klezmatics’ music is steeped in tradition and spirituality, incorporating contemporary influences from jazz to punk. It’s wild, mystical, provocative, reflective, and ecstatically danceable.
In their 35 years, the Klezmatics have raised the bar for Eastern European Jewish music. Often called a “Jewish roots band,” the Klezmatics have led a popular revival of this ages-old, nearly forgotten art form.
They’ve created a catalog that is aesthetically, politically and musically interesting. They’ve inspired future generations, and helped to change the face of contemporary Yiddish culture. Not bad for a bunch of Americans who each came to klezmer music almost by accident!
Please note: Due to health issues, Frank London will be unable to appear with the Klezmatics for this performance. Susquehanna Folk and the Appell Center wish him a speedy recovery.
The Susquehanna Folk Festival is happening all weekend, August 9-11, and includes lots of FREE programming as well as concerts and dances. See full schedule of events.
COMBO FESTIVAL TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE: Day Passes, All Festival Dances, and (for a limited time) All Festival Concerts.
