The 2026-27 Menchey Music Family Series concludes with “the gold standard in family music!”
Grammy award winner Dan Zanes and Haitian-American jazz vocalist / music therapist Claudia Zanes have joined forces with up-and-coming gospel singer Tyree Austin to create a soulful new sound in family music.
This concert is a social music celebration, a front row seat to a front porch dream… a highly interactive experience for families of all ages. It s truly a party where the sounds of 12-string guitar, flute, trombone, saxophone, beatboxing and percussion blend together to support and uplift the main event: vocal harmonies!
You will experience old and new songs from Dan + Claudia’s Smithsonian Folkways records, as well as beloved classics from the Dan Zanes and Friends deep catalog. Whether it’s singing along, dancing or just letting the music relax the mind, when Dan + Claudia and Tyree perform, there’s something for everyone.
Time magazine called Dan Zanes “the family music genre’s most outspoken advocate.” NPR referred to him as “the gold standard in family music.” Today the sounds are fresh, reimagined and perfectly suited to inspire the next generation. In the spirit of community, these concerts are for people of all ages. Come as you are, it’s party time!

Haitian-American jazz vocalist and music therapist Claudia Zanes and Grammy Award winning all-ages entertainer Dan Zanes have been making music together since the day they met in
2016. During their time together the two have toured extensively; written and performed Night Train 57: A Sensory Friendly Comic Folk Opera for the Kennedy Center; created House Party: A Family Roots Music Treasury songbook for Quarto Publishing Group; and released their first record as a duo, Let Love Be Your Guide, for Smithsonian Folkways. Their most recent Folkways album is Pieces of Home, released in August 2024.

Born & raised in Gary, IN, Tyree Austin is an aspiring vocalist with versatility and knowledge in R&B, Gospel, Jazz and Blues. He is a recent Howard University Graduate of the Chadwick A Boseman College of Fine Arts, receiving his Bachelors in Music Business & Jazz Voice. While at Howard, Tyree’s was a member of Afro Blue, Howard’s premiere vocal jazz ensemble, The Howard Gospel Choir, & Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc. He has had the honor to sing background for Mariah Carey, Fantasia, Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples, Queen Latifah, Tia Fuller, Sheléa and many more as both a solo and ensemble artist.
