The Susquehanna Folk Festival’s weekend of dance kicks off with live southern old-time music by The Contra Rebels (Todd Clewell, Barb Schmid and Henry Koretzky) and caller Bob Nicholson. A workshop for beginners is included with admission, so no experience is required!
Beginners Workshop 7:30pm
Dancing 8:15 – 10:30pm
The Contra Rebels
The Contra Rebels is an old-time southern-style band featuring York County fiddlers Todd Clewell and Barb Schmid and Harrisburg’s own Henry Koretzky on guitar and mandolin. The group has been a fixture on Central PA’s music scene for decades and plays for dances from New York to Georgia.
Bob Nicholson
Bob is a veteran caller from Syracuse, NY. He’s totally focused on fun, accessible dances. His dance repertoire is deep and his memory is amazing. The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader says, “He has a gift for teaching beginners how to engage in this gentle but lively, traditional form of dancing.”
The Susquehanna Folk Festival is happening all weekend, August 9-11, and includes lots of FREE programming as well as concerts and dances. See full schedule of events.
COMBO FESTIVAL TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE: Day Passes, All Festival Dances, and (for a limited time) All Festival Concerts.
