JAZZ IN THE CITY – JAZZ ROCK JAM
Jazz in the City presents the return of JAZZ ROCK!
Featuring:
Tom Yoder – guitar
Kirk Reese – piano
Andy Alonso – bass
Jeff Stabley – drums
Jeff Stabley, adjunct faculty and instructor of Jazz Studies, Percussion, and Improvisation at York College, is at the helm as the curator and Artistic Director of this monthly ensemble of talented local and regional, and at times national and international musicians performing live in the Studio at the Appell Center.
“This is a chance for music fans to see world-class musicians playing the highest quality music in a top-notch setting”, says Stabley. You’ll hear traditional and non-traditional jazz, as well as jazz versions of pop music. Anything from Louis Armstrong to Hip-Hop!”
This event often sells out in advance, so get your tickets early. Although students admission is free, they too should reserve a ticket in advance to be assured of a seat.
More about TOM YODER
Tom Yoder was inspired to play guitar after hearing Mick Ralphs on “All The Young Dudes” by Mott the Hoople. He attended and graduated from GIT in Hollywood in 1983, and later settled in Myrtle Beach, where he became the premier guitar instructor in South Carolina. For years, electric guitar was Tom’s main focus, as he learned the licks of Eddie Van Halen and Greg Howe. Then he discovered acoustic legends Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges (“6 and 12 String Guitar” and “Aerial Boundaries” being especially influential), and gradually began to write acoustically based solo guitar pieces.
