BIO
A child of country music great Mel Tillis, Pam Tillis was determined to find her own way as a singer and songwriter. After many false starts, Tillis came to the attention of Tim Dubois at the Nashville office of Arista records. After much soul searching, Tillis made her first honest country record. The album Put Yourself in My Place yielded two number ones, two top five singles, and one Top 20 hit. In its first year, the album was certified gold. Tillis followed with three platinum albums on Arista. Homeward Looking Angel was released in 1992, Sweethearts Dance in 1994, and her first Greatest Hits in 1997. Tillis recorded six number one songs during this time: “Shake the Sugar Tree,” “Mi Vida Loca,” “When You Walk in The Room,” “In Between Dances,” “Don’t Tell Me What to Do,” and “Maybe It Was Memphis.” Fourteen of her other singles landed in the Top 10 and Top 20.
Tillis has lent her voice to national jingles including Coke, Country Time Lemonade, and Coors Silver Bullet with country superstar Alan Jackson. Tillis has worked as a staff writer for Elektra Asylum Publishing and for Warner Brothers Publishing. Her songs have been recorded by some of the biggest names in music, including Chaka Khan, Juice Newton, Dan Seals, Gloria Gaynor, Conway Twitty, and Highway 101.
