A kindly movie projectionist (Buster Keaton) longs to be a detective. When his fiancée (Kathryn McGuire) is robbed by a local thief (Ward Crane), the poor projectionist is framed for the crime. Using his amateur detective skills, the projectionist follows the thief to the train station, only to find himself locked in a train car. Disheartened, he returns to his movie theater, where he falls asleep and dreams that he is the great Sherlock Holmes.

Buster Keaton is an icon of silent era cinema, and Sherlock Jr. is one of the finest gems of his filmography. Keaton was such an expressive performer. He could be as affecting in tender emotional moments as he was during his wild (often still surprising) stunts.

In the Capitol Theatre we also hold the privilege of having a fully functioning theater organ, which is regularly played by the members of the Susquehanna Valley Theater Organ Society. For this screening, Organist Don Kinnier will be playing the theater organ live in accompaniment with the film. This is a rare experience that harkens back to the early days of cinema, and we are excited to offer this to our audiences.
