About Leo Smith
Leo Smith has toured the world as a professional bassist since 1990. He has played on the Broadway musical “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations” on Broadway, and is currently the bass player on that musical’s first National Tour. He will be the bass player for “The Wiz” when it begins its national tour in Baltimore in September 2023 as it works towards a Broadway opening date in 2024.

Leo is a military veteran, serving a 20 year career with the US Air Force in the band career field. In five assignments and two deployments, he performed throughout the world with concert-symphonic bands, jazz bands, and several pop-rock bands. After retiring from the military Leo moved to NYC to navigate the perils of the freelance music world and piece together a living through music.  He performed with various memorable and some forgettable groups until landing his current gig with “Ain’t Too Proud.”

Leo was born and raised in York PA, and is a graduate of York Catholic HS.  His first music lessons were at the piano with Louise Lenhart, and studied upright and electric bass at Lebanon Valley College.
