On Saturday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m., a theatre organ/silent movie showing of The Great K & A Train Robbery will be performed by Mr. Don Kinnier, known as the “premier silent film accompanist in the northeastern United States.” The Great K & A Train Robbery stars Tom Mix, Dorothy Dwan, and Tony the Horse. It is an action-packed Western with a healthy dose of comedy and romance.
Don Kinnier is no stranger to the Wurlitzer theatre organ located in the Capitol Theatre. This performance is being sponsored by the Reed Organ Society (an International organization devoted to the preservation and restoration of and performance on historical reed organs). This event, which will connect silent movies and the use of reed organs as accompanying instruments, is part of the biennial gathering of the ROS, which will focus on the Weaver Organ Company of York, Pa, this is one of several events being held in the York area during the weekend of October 20-22, 2017.
