High School Students
The Appell Center for the Performing Arts proudly partners with the York City School District to staff and curate the performing arts sector of the first-ever William Penn Fine Arts Academy. Thanks to our partnership, the 2018-2019 academy curriculum will expose over 200 York High students to the end-to-end aspects of the performing arts business – including courses in acting, directing, playwriting, dance, stage makeup, costume and prop design, theatre production and more. William Penn High School students displaying a particular interest in theatre arts are invited to select a specific track of study that will lead them into advanced course work ideal for college-prep or that would shine on any resume post-graduation. All courses are taught by seasoned industry professionals and designed to provide students with real-world training.
The William Penn High School theatre arts students will also be privy to exclusive opportunities at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts including post-show Q&As with guests and artists, backstage tours, in-depth discussions with Appell Center administrative staff and performance night shadowing with event production crews.
The students’ classroom work will culminate in a fall play and a spring musical over the course of the school year. Our staff at York High will also lead two new dance initiatives: the Bearcat Dance Company and a spring dance showcase. Be on the lookout for York High theatre and dance performance announcements and come out to support the stars of tomorrow!
