Program Overview

The 2019 Appell Center for the Performing Arts Summer Music Academy provides an intensive music academy for middle and high school students in the greater York area. Students will participate in the Academy Symphony Orchestra & Chamber Music Ensembles and will attend lectures and masterclasses taught by leading professionals in the music field. The week will conclude with an evening performance by the Academy Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Ensembles. The Summer Music Academy will feature guest conductor Dr. Christopher Cicconi, Director of Bands and Orchestras and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Towson University.

Date & Time: June 17 - June 21 (8:00 AM - 5:15 PM each day)

Location: Appell Center for the Performing Arts (50 N. George Street, York, PA)

Age Group: Students in Grades 7-12

Lunch: Not provided

Application Information:

Applicants are required to submit audition videos to apply and selected participants will be notified. It is recommended to choose etudes, solo excerpts, and standard orchestral excerpts that best showcase your talent and abilities. There is no minimum/maximum length requirement on etudes/solo excerpts. If you are using a standard solo work for your instrument, it is recommended that you choose one or two movements. You may submit one video with all audition requirements, or 4 separate links for the 4 required pieces.

Tuition & Payment Options

$300 per student

No application fee. $150 deposit due within 10 days of acceptance. $150 remaining balance due by June 3.

Payment Options:

Payments may be made in the form of check, cash, or credit card (VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, or AMEX) by contacting Eduction Assistant, Dan Crowell, at 717-825-2239 or Scholarship support available based on need (see below for application).

Refund Policy:

100% for cancellations 30 or more days before session start date.

50% for cancellations 14 days or more before session start date.

No refund within 14 days of session start date.


Scholarships are available. Scholarship funding is awarded based on need, the students statement of interest and date of submission.

Release and Waiver of Liability

Please download and sign the Release and Waiver of Liability and deliver it to one of the faculty members on the first day of the Summer Orchestra Academy. One release form must be filled out and signed per student.
