Black Film Series Coming Soon to the Capitol Theatre

York PA – Feb 12, 2019 – The Appell Center invites you to the Capitol Theatre to enjoy our new, monthly Black Film Series – a series of films that celebrate the culture of the African-American and Black communities! The Appell Center has partnered with local African-American and black community leaders to curate a film series designed to welcome and engage York's diverse community.


The film series kicks off with a very special double feature Friday night event – The Wiz at 6:30 PM, directly followed by Dreamgirls at 9:00 PM. After the initial double feature kick-off event, the series will continue to show one feature film each month including classics such as Do the Right Thing, Love and Basketball, Claudine, and a special First Friday Family Film screening of Akeelah and the Bee. All tickets are $5 and students with ID and kids under 12 are free.

Film tickets can be purchased in advance online at AppellCenter.org or by calling the Appell Center Box Office at 717-846-1111. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Box Office 30 minutes prior to each film. Snacks and refreshments, including beer and wine, are available for purchase and can be brought into the theatre.
